This scenario - a Seagull throning a trash bin, reorganizing the contents to chaos, is a classic in Cph, port city as it is. To address it in my city portrait; Alive and Kicking in Cph, felt almost inevitable.
But the Seagull is also a classic motive in Danish Ceramics: Featuring in a famous table ware line, Mågestellet, 1892 Bing & Grøndahl designed by Fanny Garde (1855-1925).
For the same company the Danish sculptor Anne Marie Carl Nielsen modeled a Seagull, 1905. A very short cooperation. Maybe because sculpting for replica meant smoothing the surface to quite an extent compared with her normal expression. (The statuette is permanently shown at Clay Museum of Ceramic Art - with he smoothest attitude...).
MATERIALS: Mixed media ceramics; Stoneware, porcelain, linoleum, lollypop, plastic eye and discarded municipal trash can
MEASUREMENTS (l/w/h): 58x58x105 cm
