There are no wolves on Saltholm. Not even a fox. But since my ambition with the installation Saltholm Revisited was to create a Mindscape, the shadow of a wolf seemed to belong - as a metaphor both for the killer and the survival instinct, I believe we all posses. And need to be very aware of.
Throughout Danish history the wolf has been hunted wild, and was until recently eradicated. I am not the one to judge weather the animal should be part of modern Danish fauna. But I do recognize the sinister, as well as the elegancy - and the resilience of this animal.
In Denmark we have bred too many cows for a healthy climate. And maybe protected too many geese...
I wonder - we regulate nature. But is it always to a better, or just a different balance?
I could ask the same of my own Mindscape...
