Transitions, 2018 Ceramic Improvisation on Daybreak

Ceramic Improvisation on Daybreak

This project arises from my experience of daybreak; How an almost surrealistic light transforms the surroundings into a magical mystery of rose – as if anything could happen…

It happens every day.  It is a completely natural phenomenon. But for a short moment in time, it opens a space of wild between the earth bound trivialities of everyday life – where the elements crystallize and horses run riot…

It is in transition the magic occurs – and it is loaded with energy.

Across religions, transitions in life are guarded by rites of passage, based on a common belief that we are particularly fragile to the forces of chaos in the tumultuous atmosphere of transition. By choice or force, 'the old' no longer makes sense and the new is still unknown – like daybreak. And we go through it more or less courageously, more or less elegantly...

Transitions is an experiment on transforming this abstract energy into the very concrete material, ceramics. To bring a bit of magic into daily life, and some daily life into the mystery of our spiritual longing - that sometimes gets lost in transition.

Also in ceramics the particularly fragile moments are in the transitions, happening secretly in the closed chamber of the kiln. And in this project the magic occurs exactly in the meetings of the glazes, glaze and clay – in the transitions.
